Dough!

Play dough is always popular in the pre school/ toddler classes. It really is a wonderfully simple material for creative play. In recent classes we made our own salt dough, the children loved mixing together all the ingredients, kneading the dough and then rolling and cutting out shapes to make decorations. The following week I brought back the baked hard playdough to decorate. They came out beautifully!

If you would like to try making salt dough with your child at home here is a simple recipe....

2 cups of plain flour

1 cup of salt

1 cup of water

Mix everything together in a big bowl, adding the water gradually, You want to get a nice non sticky dough so might not need all the water. Knead the dough well and get creative. If making decorations to hang remember to make a hole for ribbon to be thread through with something like a pencil or straw. To set the dough hard bake it in the oven at a low temperature until hard or leave on top of a radiator or airing cupboard to dry.
